Our tracks and their stories
Get glorious with these four
All About Me
The perfect track to unleash your inner Diva. We know who’s the centre of attention. Nothing wrong with being selfish now and again. An archetype of the Champagne Dreads sound - diverse, multi-layered bubbly and catchy. Like a fine vintage, one sip has you wanting more. Our super-talented good friend Mozez appears on this track too.
A-listed
You’ve got to be top of the guest list. You’ve got to be A-Listed. Nothing’s more important. The boldness of our sound and attitude in a signature track. Deep and dark, yet sparkling and just a little bit witty too. Well we laugh at our own sense of humour anyway.
In my Bed (Placido Domingo)
Champagne Dreads' "In My Bed" is a playful, fun song mixing all sorts of different musical styles even seeing a guitar wah-wah pedal getting an outing. There's no real story of intrigue behind it other than wanting to take a modest form of revenge on a famous opera singer for block-booking our favourite hotel room for extended periods! The cheek of it!
Todd Terry’s Mum
Don't you hate it when someone doesn't know who you are? Just as well we have a thick skin, and a wicked sense of real humour. Well we think we're funny anyway Champagne Dreads are always A-Listed! Enjoy this track, that really doesn't take itself too seriously. Also playing on this one is reggae legend Horseman on drums and Patrick Anthony on trumpet. Patrick has been with UB40, Matumbi, and played with Dennis Bovell among many, many others.
If only we could bring you these
Owner of a Prada Bag
A little bit of essential luxury. Yes’ “Owner of a Lonely Heart” for the new luxury consumer age.
Reggae Nights
Old school, new school. The grandeur of Heatwave’s seminal “Boogie Nights”, given the Champagne Dreads update treatment and relocated to a Caribbean beach. And for link to real roots reggae this track features the legendary Horseman on drums and backing vocals.
Champagne Dreads has numerous tracks complete, some of which are - not wholly serious - adaptations of existing tracks. The two above are two of our favourites. Unfortunately, the rights-holders for these have refused permission for the adaptations. So for now these tracks will be held back, but maybe emerge soon as part of a “Dready Parodies” EP? In the meantime, we’ll try very hard not to feel like they’re killjoys.
